First and foremost, in Malta the government bonuses, also known as statutory bonuses are mandatory and are quarterly payments made by the employer to the employee.

For retirees working on a full-time basis, the onus of payment of full bonuses is on the employer. No bonus is issued by Department of Social Security for full-time working pensioners.

On the other hand, in case of part-time pensioners, part bonus (also known as pro-rata bonus) is paid by the employer according to the hours worked whereas the remaining balance is paid by the Department of Social Security upon presentation of a copy payslips that demonstrate the amount of bonus received. Copy of pay slips can be presented at your nearest district office or can be sent as scanned copies to Social Security at MFCS social.security@gov.mt or to ServizzGov at ServizzGov servizz@gov.mt
