Financial Capability Fun Books Education Competition: Announcing the Results
In August 2020, ĠEMMA within the Ministry of Solidarity and Social Justice, the Family and Children’s Rights and the Department of Learning and Assistance Programmes within the Ministry for Education launched a Financial Capability Fun Books Education Competition.
The purpose of the competition was to attract persons to write fun based financial capability education stories to be used by teachers for primary school pupils. The competition had two categories – pupils in Levels 1 to 3 and pupils in Levels 4 to 6.
The competition guidelines that the stories had to cover financial capability skills such as financial capability like managing a debt; budgeting; building a safety net; planning for the future; understanding basic investment and understanding basic consumer rights and include themes of inclusion, healthy living, diversity, Maltese traditions, and mathematics.
The competition attracted over 51 stories submitted by 36 authors. The evaluation of the stories was completed on 8th February 2021. The jury consisted of the following:

The Jury concluded that the level of the submissions presented was a satisfactory one, with many of the stories being pleasant and attractive to read. The jury further added that future competitions should make less emphasis on traditional and folklore Maltese characteristics and encourage themes relating to Maltese contemporary society. The prizes for each category were: 1st – €3,000; 2nd – €2,000; and 3rd – €1,000. Given the high quality of submissions presented the Jury assigned a number of commendations. The results of the Jury are presented below.
