This year’s edition of Skolasajf organised by the Foundation for Educational Services was “Peace by Piece”. The theme encourages people to do their part, no matter how small, as everyone’s contribution will impact our overall well-being.
The collaboration of ĠEMMA and HSBC Malta Foundation aimed at teaching the children to become more aware of the importance of Social Responsible Investing (SRI). Investing by understanding more about the products we purchase daily and how they, as large companies, show their responsibility towards our Environment, Society, and Governance (ESG’s).
By encouraging awareness and individual responsibility ĠEMMA and HSBC Malta Foundation aim to continue contributing towards a more financially capable community to help improve families and communities’ social and environmental landscape. The children were given hands-on learning which included discussions, presentations, and video clips.
This is the fourth year that ĠEMMA and HSBC Malta Foundation have collaborated on SkolaSajf. A dedicated group of educators and HSBC Volunteers worked on developing and training the SRI program to teach the number of learners participating in the primary Skolasajf schools all over Malta and Gozo.
Throughout the summer months, the team visited 49 schools, teaching approximately 2,500 students between the ages of 8 and 14. A competition for all the students was held. The students, in groups of four, were asked to design a poster showcasing their fictitious company and list four key socially responsible initiatives they would apply. The team from Attard centre placed first, while teams from Pembroke and Żebbug Centres were runners-up. An award ceremony was held at Awla Prima, Valletta Campus on the 6th September, 2023. Present for the event were Hon Dr Michael Falzon, Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Mr Michael Bondin, Chief Executive – Foundation for Educational Services, Mr Glenn Bugeja from HSBC Foundation Malta, Ms Alexia Vella – Director General for Research, Policy and Operations, the ĠEMMA Team, volunteers from HSBC Foundation Malta and Educators.
