On the 8th of June 2020, the Maltese Government announced an economic regeneration plan aimed to revive Malta’s economy after the COVID-19 pandemic-induced economic slowdown.
Following the announcement of such plan, the Maltese Government recently launched details relating to the Rent and Electricity Refund Scheme.
Over 20,000 enterprises that have been granted the COVID Wage Supplement will be able to apply for a cash grant of up to €15,000 for rent and electricity costs (rental costs refund capped at €7,500 and electricity costs capped at €7,500, same).
Enterprises may claim rental costs of up to €7,500 of annual rent as indicated in table below on up to 5 licensed distinct electricity accounts.

Conditions apply –
The premises must be rented from third parties specifically used for carrying out economic activities.
The rent agreement must have been signed prior 9 March 2020. Renewals of rental agreements signed after 9 March 2020 shall be considered eligible if the rental agreement was in place prior 9th of March 2020.
Enterprises shall be entitled to a grant of up €1,500 per account, covering 50% of the electrical power costs for any period in July, August and September 2020. In case of business that have multiple energy accounts, operating from multiple sites, they may claim additional support up to €7,500. Refer to table below for more details.

Malta Enterprise shall send an email on Wednesday 9th September 2020 to all those who have benefited for the Wage Supplement. A link in the email will direct you to an online application.
With regards to rental costs, once the application is processed, the grant will be disbursed by the end of 2020. In the case of electricity costs, applicants will receive a voucher to claim refunds on payments of any electricity bill incurred during July, August and September 2020, as per details above.
The closing date for scheme will be announced by Malta Enterprise. Therefore, please await email from Malta Enterprise and proceed accordingly.
